Alaska Tours

Alaska is a spectacular state to visit and its diverse landscapes and abundant nature will keep any traveller incessantly occupied. Depending on which of our fantastic holidays you choose, you will fly from London to either Seattle, Calgary or Vancouver where we provide guided sightseeing tours of each city. All excursions are included within the price of your holiday unless otherwise stated, as well as all flights, accommodation, cruises, most meals and the services of your Tour Manager throughout each of our Alaska train tours.

Our Alaska train tours include journeys on the Denali Star and the Coastal Classic where guides will point out interesting sights along the way. The carriages have panoramic windows and you can access the upper deck's observation dome to get a better view of the spectacular landscapes. Our Alaska holidays also feature a cruise along the striking coastline onboard a Holland America ship where you will stay in elegantly appointed inside cabins. The ships have fantastic facilities including restaurants, lounges, a fitness centre, spa and theatre.

There are options to upgrade your air travel, rail travel and cruise cabin for an additional supplement (please discuss this with your Tour Advisor when booking your holiday).

During our Alaska train tours we visit some intriguing destinations and enjoy a range of excursions. In Fairbanks, "the Gateway to the Arctic", you can enjoy a sightseeing tour and learn about the town's history during the legendary Gold Rush. We also take you on a river cruise onboard a sternwheeler along the Chena and Tanana rivers, stopping off at the Chena Indian village where Alaskan native guides will take you on an informative tour. At Denali we take a Tundra Wilderness tour of the International Biosphere Reserve where caribou, wolves, bears and moose are frequently seen. During some free time there, you may wish to partake in a spot of fishing, hiking or take a flight over Mount McKinley - North America's highest mountain. There is another city tour to enjoy when you arrive in Anchorage where we will visit Lake Hood, Ship Creek and Earthquake Park - a memorial to the affluent residential area that was destroyed by a large earthquake in 1964.

The cruise part of our Alaska holidays promises to reveal some beautiful scenery and wildlife so make sure you keep your camera handy. Enjoy the sights of College Fjord in Prince William Sound before sailing into Glacier Bay which has the greatest number of actively calving glaciers in the world. If you are lucky enough you might witness the dramatic sight of ice collapsing into the sea. Docking at Haines you may wish to visit the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve before heading to Alaska's capital Juneau with its mountainous backdrop, where you can learn about the city's gold mining heritage at its various museums.

It is amazing how much diverse scenery and wildlife you will see during our Alaska tours. The rail journeys pass through towering mountains and dense boreal forests, over creeks and above deep canyons, and you might spot beaver lodges and bears on the banks of the rivers. As you cruise along the rugged Alaskan coastline you will see pristine glaciers with towering ice cliffs, picturesque fjords with deep blue waters and there may be the possibility that you will see humpback whales, orcas and beluga whales, as well as sea lions and seals.

On our Alaska holidays you can relax knowing that all the travel and accommodation arrangements are being taken care of by your Tour Manager.  Alaska train tours are a unique experience for anyone looking for a different type of holiday and are a must for any wildlife enthusiast.
