As one of the most unique cities in America, New Orleans plays host to a variety of exciting festivals and celebrations including Mardi Gras. The multicultural heritage of the city is reflected in the French Creole architecture which dominates some of the city. The French Quarter is the most famous and oldest part of New Orleans and is a joy to explore on a free day during our Deep South USA tours. Some of our holidays visit New Orleans during Mardi Gras where there is an array of parades and floats to enjoy. From New Orleans you may be able to enjoy a ride on the steamboat SS Natchez where you can experience jazz along with a delicious dinner.
Another popular destination in the Deep South is the former home of Elvis Presley - Memphis. On the way to Memphis you may stop in Tupelo which was the birthplace of Elvis. Here you can visit the Presleys' modest two-room house, a museum and the church where Elvis first fell in love with Gospel music. Memphis is an ideal location to learn more about the musical history of the Deep South. Sun Studios is a great place to visit as it is regarded as the 'birthplace of Rock 'n' Roll' with stars like Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis once on its roster, whilst the Museum of American Soul Music teaches you about another popular musical export from the south.
